Therapy Services in Crown Heights

Individual Therapy

You may be dealing with persistent worry, low mood, burnout, loneliness, or relationship difficulties that keep repeating. You may also want to understand yourself more deeply without having a specific diagnosis or immediate crisis.

In individual therapy, we explore your concerns, relationships, and experiences together. The work can help you recognize familiar patterns, understand your reactions, and develop more options for responding.

Couples Therapy

Some couples come to therapy after trust has been damaged. Others feel stuck in recurring arguments, struggle with intimacy, or want support through a major decision or transition.

Our couples therapists help partners discuss difficult subjects and understand the patterns shaping their relationship. Our team draws on approaches including Gottman, emotionally focused therapy, and psychodynamic couples therapy.

We welcome queer and straight couples, married and unmarried partners, and people in monogamous and polyamorous relationships.

Teen Therapy

School pressure, friendships, family conflict, and questions about identity can be difficult to navigate during adolescence. Teen therapy gives teenagers space to speak openly with someone who listens and takes their experiences seriously.

We work collaboratively with teens and involve parents or caregivers when appropriate, with attention to privacy, trust, and each teenager’s needs.

group therapy

You may feel isolated in your experiences, find yourself repeating familiar patterns in relationships, or want to better understand how you relate to others. Group therapy offers an opportunity to explore these experiences in a supportive setting with other people.

In group therapy, members work together to understand their relationship patterns, share perspectives, and experiment with new ways of connecting. Our interpersonal process groups offer space to develop greater self-awareness and experience how relationships can change through meaningful interactions with others.

family therapy

Family relationships can become strained by communication difficulties, caregiving responsibilities, changing roles, or longstanding conflict.

In family therapy, family members work together to understand their interactions and practice more productive conversations. We support parents, adult children, siblings, and other family members. You do not have to wait until a problem becomes overwhelming to seek support.

Finding the Right Therapist at Groundwork

You do not need to arrive knowing which clinician or approach is right for you. Our team helps match you with a therapist based on your concerns, preferences, and scheduling needs.

We provide LGBTQ+ affirming therapy and welcome different identities and relationship structures with respect. Your gender, sexuality, or relationship style can be part of the conversation when relevant to your goals.

Dr. Melissa Johnson also offers therapy in Spanish and English.
