WE SPECIALIZE IN GENDER AND SEXUAL DIVERSITY.
At Groundwork Therapy, we provide affirming and inclusive therapy for teens exploring or identifying within the spectrum of gender and sexual diversity. Our practice is built on the belief that every young person deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued—especially as they navigate questions of identity in a world that often misunderstands or marginalizes them.
We specialize in working with with LGBTQ+ youth ages 14-18, with a particular focus on gender identity support and exploration (whether cis, trans, nonbinary, agender, gender-fluid, gender-queer, etc) and sexual orientation support and exploration (whether pan, ace, gay, lesbian, bi, queer, etc). Some specific therapy topics that may be relevant to your teen’s therapy include: coming out and disclosure, family acceptance and communication, the impact of minority stress on mental health, bullying, intersectionality of multiple identities, as well as the interplay of race, culture, faith, and identity.
Gender and sexual diversity are not mental health problems—but stigma, rejection, and invisibility can cause significant distress and negatively impact social and academic functioning. We work to counter those risks by helping teens build identity pride, navigate difficult relationships, and thrive as their authentic selves.
Our team of therapists have advanced training in gender and sexual identity development and affirmative therapy models. We use trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate practices to create safe and empowering spaces for teens to explore their identities without fear of judgment or pressure.
We understand the nuanced challenges queer teens face in their schools, homes, and communities and we’re here to help.
