SUPERVISION & CONSULTATION

The licensed psychologists at Groundwork Therapy have extensive experience providing supervision and consultation to therapists in training across New York state.

Supervision.

We approach supervision similarly to therapy, creating a collaborative, mutually curious space to explore and more deeply understand clinical cases. We utilize a relational model of supervision, which includes examining the supervisory relationship and exploring parallels between this relationship and the therapist’s relationship with those clients discussed.

Consultation.

We take a collegial and informal approach to clinical consultation. Case consultation will provide you the opportunity to deepen your clinical work, gain clarity around treatment goals and interventions, get “unstuck,” and/or help you feel re-engaged with your clinical cases. We provide a supportive, judgment-free space to better understand countertransference reactions, “imposter syndrome,” and/or any personal insecurities that inhibit you from being the most effective clinician.

our approach to

group supervision

We offer group supervision for LMSWs, LCSWs, LMFTs, LMHCs, postdoctoral psychologists, and licensed psychologists in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary setting. We intentionally bring together clinicians from varying disciplines and developmental stages, creating a rich learning environment that supports both breadth and depth of clinical thinking.

Our supervisors bring expertise in relational psychodynamic psychotherapy, interpersonal process, and gender and sexuality. This group is especially well-suited for therapists who want to deepen their work through an integrative, psychodynamically informed, relational lens.

Supervision focuses on helping clinicians balance immediate, skills-based interventions with a longer-term, growth-oriented psychodynamic framework. We emphasize close attention to countertransference and clinical “blind spots,” using these moments as opportunities for deeper understanding and more intentional relational interventions. Participants are encouraged to bring in complex case material, including challenging presentations, therapeutic impasses, feelings of stuckness, and moments of meaningful shift.

Groups are composed of thoughtful, open, and self-reflective therapists from across the country, fostering a supportive and engaged cohort where clinicians can grow both professionally and personally.

virtual supervision group

Our current Supervision Group is led by Dr. Melissa Johnson, who has over 15 years of clinical experience.

The group meets virtually on Wednesdays at 11AM for 55 minutes and is accessible to therapists across New York State, including those in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and other boroughs.

The fee is $100 per meeting.

The supervision group will have a maximum of 6 therapist-members. We intentionally select thoughtful, open, and self-reflective therapists from across the country, fostering a supportive and engaged cohort where clinicians can grow both professionally and personally.

We are currently seeking one to two additional therapist members to join the group. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you are interested.

*Please note that supervision provided in this format is supplemental and is intended for skill development and training purposes. It does not qualify as supervision hours required to obtain a NY license in psychology, social work, or mental health counseling.
