Virtual Group Supervision
for Therapists in New York & Across the US

Our group supervision provides thoughtful, relationally oriented consultation for therapists in New York and across the United States. Grounded in psychodynamic thinking, we create space to deepen clinical understanding, explore the therapeutic relationship, and support thoughtful, effective practice.

A Collaborative Space to Deepen Your Clinical Work

Therapy asks us to remain present with complexity every day.

We sit with uncertainty, strong emotions, ruptures, moments of transformation, and questions that do not always have immediate answers. While this work can be deeply meaningful, it can also feel isolating without a place to reflect alongside other thoughtful clinicians.

At Groundwork Therapy, we believe meaningful growth as a therapist happens in relationship. Our virtual group supervision for therapists provides a collaborative environment where clinicians can examine challenging cases, deepen their clinical thinking, and develop greater confidence in their work.

Whether you are seeking therapist supervision, psychodynamic consultation, or a community of engaged clinicians, our group offers an opportunity to strengthen your practice and better understand yourself within the therapeutic relationship.

Please note, this group is intended for professional development, supplemental supervision, and clinical consultation. Participation does not satisfy supervision hours required for licensure in New York. Clinicians accruing licensure hours should maintain a separate, qualified primary supervisor.

Who Is This Supervision Group For?

This group is designed for therapists who value curiosity, reflection, and ongoing professional development.

It may be a good fit if you want to:

  • Deepen your relational and psychodynamic clinical skills

  • Strengthen case formulation and treatment planning

  • Better understand countertransference and relational interventions

  • Build confidence when working with complex cases

  • Explore your own responses within therapy

  • Receive thoughtful feedback from experienced colleagues

  • Feel less professionally isolated

  • Continue growing after formal training has ended

You do not need to arrive with a perfectly formed clinical question. Sometimes it is enough to know that a case feels difficult, emotionally charged, or stuck.

Whether you are relatively early in your career or have years of experience, consultation for therapists can provide valuable space to remain engaged and thoughtful in your work.

Relational Psychodynamic Group Supervision

Effective supervision is about more than identifying the “right” intervention.

Clinical questions often involve uncertainty, emotional responses, personal assumptions, and relational dynamics that cannot be understood through technique alone. Our approach to psychodynamic supervision creates space to slow down and consider what may be happening beneath the surface.

Together, we might explore:

  • What is unfolding between therapist and client?

  • What emotions are being evoked in the therapeutic relationship?

  • What relational patterns may be repeating themselves?

  • What might feel difficult to recognize or discuss?

  • How is the therapist’s own experience shaping the work?

Our work is also grounded in relational supervision. Just as therapy is shaped by the relationship between therapist and client, supervision is influenced by the relationship between supervisor, supervisee, and group.

At times, we may notice parallels between a clinician’s therapeutic relationships and what emerges during supervision. These moments are approached with curiosity rather than judgment. They can create opportunities for greater self-awareness, more intentional interventions, and a deeper understanding of the clinical process.

Rather than rushing toward rigid answers, we think together. By remaining curious about both the client and the therapist’s experience, clinicians can discover new perspectives and possibilities for treatment.

Psychodynamically Informed, Integrative Thinking

Our supervision is rooted in relational psychodynamic psychotherapy while remaining responsive to the realities of contemporary clinical practice.

We will focus on relational conceptualization and intervention, with particular attention to the here-and-now process of therapy. We will consider what is happening between therapist and client, how the therapeutic relationship may reveal underlying relational patterns, and how the therapist can use the relationship as a place for corrective emotional and relational experiences.

We may explore how early attachment experiences, unconscious processes, identity, gender, sexuality, culture, and interpersonal patterns continue to shape a client’s relationships and emotional life. We also recognize the value of practical interventions that help clients manage immediate challenges.

These approaches do not need to be treated as opposites. Psychodynamic supervision can help clinicians integrate deeper psychological understanding with responsive, individualized care.

The goal is not to impose one way of practicing therapy. It is to strengthen each clinician’s ability to formulate cases thoughtfully, respond flexibly, and make choices that fit the person in front of them. A relational psychodynamic lens is especially valuable when treatment feels stuck, helping clinicians attend to what is happening in the therapeutic relationship and consider how the therapist’s participation in that relationship can provide new possibilities for the work.

What We Explore Together

Each supervision meeting is shaped by the needs of the clinicians in the group. Participants are encouraged to bring cases that feel challenging, emotionally demanding, confusing, or simply difficult to move forward.

Topics may include:

  • Countertransference and emotional responses

  • Therapeutic impasses and recurring relational patterns

  • Case formulation and treatment planning

  • Boundaries, ethics, and clinical decision-making

  • Balancing insight-oriented and practical interventions

  • Professional identity, confidence, and self-doubt

Our goal is not simply to answer clinical questions. It is to help therapists think more deeply about their work, understand what may be contributing to a difficult clinical moment, and feel more grounded in their decisions.

Clinical consultation can be particularly helpful when treatment feels repetitive or stalled. A therapist may sense that something important is happening without yet being able to identify it. Reflecting with a supervisor and other clinicians can reveal patterns, assumptions, or emotional dynamics that are difficult to recognize while inside the work.

Learn Alongside Other Thoughtful Clinicians

One of the greatest strengths of group supervision for therapists is the opportunity to learn from colleagues with different backgrounds, disciplines, and perspectives.

Our groups bring together clinicians at various stages of professional development, including LMSWs, LCSWs, LMHCs, LMFTs, postdoctoral psychologists, and licensed psychologists. Each participant contributes a perspective that can enrich the conversation for everyone.

Hearing another therapist describe a familiar struggle can also normalize experiences that clinicians often carry privately. Questions about competence, uncertainty, countertransference, and difficult treatment decisions become less isolating when they can be discussed honestly.

Over time, the group becomes more than a place for case consultation. It becomes a community of reflective practitioners committed to thoughtful, ethical, and relational clinical work.

Clinical growth rarely happens by pretending to have every answer. It develops through honest reflection, openness to feedback, and a willingness to remain curious about ourselves and our clients.

At Groundwork Therapy, we aim to create a collaborative environment where clinicians can bring uncertainty, difficult emotions, clinical blind spots, and unanswered questions into the conversation without judgment.
